Jul 18th, 2011

NY health insuranceDo you have breast, cervical, colorectal or prostate cancer and you’re looking for inexpensive New York health insurance? There’s help for you. Medicaid is offering comprehensive health coverage to individuals who need cancer treatment but are ineligible Medicaid through the program Medicaid Cancer Treatment Program (MCTP).

Applicants will go through screening and diagnosis by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They will have to complete the application process through a Designated Qualified Entity (DQE) which is authorized by the state’s department of health to assist New Yorkers throughout the application process.

If you have Breast cancer, you are eligible to apply for MCTP NY health insurance if:

  • you are a United States citizen or an alien with satisfactory immigration status
  • you are a New York state resident
  • you have been diagnosed with a pre-cancerous breast condition or that you have breast cancer by a licensed health care provider in the state. If you were diagnosed in another state, then the diagnosis should come from the state’s National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program;
  • you are in need of treatment for the condition but you do not have any medical and insurance coverage for this particular condition

If you have Cervical cancer or diagnosed with a pre-cancerous cervical condition, the same eligibility requirements apply.

If you have colorectal cancer and you want to be covered under the MCTP program, you should comply with the following:

  • you are a United States citizen or an alien with satisfactory immigration status
  • you are a New York state resident
  • you are below 65 years old
  • you are diagnosed with Colorectal cancer by a current Cancer Services Program (CSP) credentialed provider
  • you are in need of treatment for Colorectal cancer or pre-cancerous Colorectal condition but you have no health and insurance coverage for your condition;
  • your income at the time of application must be below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level

The same eligibility requirements apply to those who have Prostate cancer who want to apply for the MCTP program.

Once you have met the eligibility requirements for MCTP, you will be given limited coverage time until you will be approved by Medicaid. Enrollment under this program is limited to the plan-holder. Dependents will not be covered in this program.
