Losing Weight Without Feeling Deprived

Feb 25th, 2013

losing weightSome people have a difficult time staying on their diet because they feel too famished to last all day, making losing weight  seem like its an uphill battle. Watching your calorie intake doesn’t mean that you should eat so little to the point of getting hungry. Here are seven ways to lose weight and feel satisfied at the same time:

Load up on good carbohydrates in the morning

Loading up on energy-sustaining carbs in the morning is a great way to lose weight and stay satisfied. Consuming complex carbohydrates will help keep you full longer and provide enough energy to last until lunchtime. Opt for whole grains and fiber-rich fruits for a satisfying breakfast.

Eat frequently

Eating three huge meals a day might be enough for your calorie requirements. However, spreading your meals too far apart can cause hunger pangs. Divvy up your daily calorie intake into three smaller meals and two or three small snacks. Make sure you do not go over your limit. Eating frequently helps control blood sugar levels and prevents you from getting too hungry for your next meal.

Eat enough protein

Consuming protein helps curb appetite by maintaining blood sugar levels. Opt for lean meats, low-fat dairy products, eggs, nuts, and legumes. Make sure to eat enough protein especially for dinner to avoid late-night snacking.

Include healthy fats

Monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats found in olive oil, nuts, avocados, fatty fish, and soy products have several health benefits. Studies have shown that they also help reduce belly fat. They can also control calorie consumption by helping you feel full longer.

Have a salad

Eating a huge salad (with low-fat dressing, of course) is not only healthy, it also tricks your brain into thinking that you’re eating a lot and the fiber will help keep your belly full. Choose low-calorie greens and raw vegetables. You can also include lean protein such as grilled fish or tofu to keep you feeling satisfied until your next meal or snack.

Drink plenty of water

Sipping water all day does not only keep your body hydrated, it can also help you feeling full so you avoid mindless eating.

Indulge yourself

Totally depriving yourself of your favorite food can lead you to indulge later on. Satisfy your cravings by having a “cheat day” once a week.
