Simple Tips To Stay Healthy During The Holidays

Dec 6th, 2012

Stay Healthy During The HolidaysHoliday season is near. It’s time for vacation, shopping, and parties. Unfortunately, the season also comes with a price. Many people find it difficult to stick with their healthy habits during this season. We tend to ignore our diet plans and lack the willpower to stick with our regular exercise routine. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do anything about it. Here are simple ways to enjoy and still stay healthy during the holidays:

Eat a healthy breakfast
Always eat a healthy breakfast everyday. It’s the most important meal and sets the tone for your food choices for the rest of the day. You will likely choose nutritious foods and avoid unhealthy snacks when you’ve had your breakfast. Keeping your calories down throughout the day will allow you to enjoy that holiday cookie or a glass of wine.

Hydrate
Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up and continue to sip for the rest of the day. Proper hydration provides energy for your exercises and holiday activities like shopping. It can also stave off hunger pangs between meals so you can save more calories for some holiday treats.

Be thankful
The holidays is a great time to think about the things to be thankful for in your life. Being grateful will have a positive on you and those around you.

Take a walk
Doing your intense workout may be out of the question during the holidays. Taking a 15- to 30-minute walk outside will help make you feel great and will give you some time to clear your head and burn some calories at the same time.

Stretch
Stretching is important especially if you work sitting in front of the desk the whole day. Set your alarm to remind you to get up and stretch every hour. Stretching can relieve tension helping you focus on the task at hand.

Find quiet time
The holidays can be stressful for some people. You may need to find some quiet time to get yourself back on track. Spend at least ten minutes a day to take things slow by reading a book, meditating, or listening to your favorite music.

Take a multivitamin
Do your best to eat healthy foods during the holidays. But you don’t have to deprive yourself of some holiday treats. If you think you’re not getting enough nutritious food, take a multivitamin everyday to fill any nutritional gaps.
