What is a HDHP (High Deductible Health Plan)?

A High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) is a plan with an annual deductible of at least $1,000 for single (self-only) coverage and annual out-of-pocket expenses required to be paid not exceeding $5,000. For family coverage, and HDHP has an annual deductible of a least $2,000 and annual out of pocket expense required to be paid not exceeding $10,000.*
